EDUCATION FORMAZIONE

1972
    BFA, Moore College of Art
To enter a painting by Linda Salerno is like stepping into
a memory palace, an often labyrinthine space where each
chamber is inhabited by spirits from a collective past:
nineteenth-century studies of animals, flowers and insects
float on layers of paint or appear behind veils of pigment-
found images of lost worlds. The detailed precision of
schoolbook prints contrasts with ecstatic bursts of color and
exploding shapes on the verge of abstraction. Birds and
butterflies have escaped from science into Salerno's
polychromatic splendor; however, their faint imprint- copied
onto the canvas in often rough processes- is just an echo
of their former proud taxonomic diversity...
